Frequently Asked Questions
1. IS CANNED FRESHER THAN "FRESH" AND FROZEN?
Yes. According to a study done by the University of Illinois, canned tomatoes are fresher and better for you than fresh or frozen. The short cooking time does not ruin the nutrients in our products, but rather captures them at their peak of freshness.
2. WHY SHOULD I EAT CANNED FRUIT WHEN I CAN GET FRESH YEAR ROUND?
Because canned fruit is processed when the product is at it's freshest state and this freshness is captured and locked in upon it's canning date. Fresh fruit is often picked in advance of its optimal ripeness and allowed to ripen off the vine, making its taste not as sweet and fresh.
3. ARE CANNED TOMATOES REALLY AS GOOD AS THEY SAY FOR THE PREVENTION OF SOME CANCERS?
Yes. (Click here to read our article.)
4. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ENAMEL LINING ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR TOMATO CANS?
To protect the integrity of the container. Otherwise, the acid in our tomatoes will react with the tin and form a tinny taste or a hydrogen gas, which is not harmful but will bulge the can.
5. CAN YOU TELL ME THE VARIOUS RECOMMENDED SHELF LIVES FOR YOUR PRODUCTS?
30 months on canned products, 24 months on domestic bowls, 18 months on imported bowls

9. WHERE DO YOU HARVEST THE VARIOUS COMMODITIES THAT YOU REQUIRE FOR OUR PRODUCTS?
All from Northern California. Specifically Apricots are from Patterson and Westley, Peaches are from Modesto, Kingsburg and Yuba City, Pears are from the Sacramento Delta, Hopland, Ukiah, Mendocino, Lake County and Linden, Tomatoes are from mostly the Sacramento region, but also come from the Fresno and Five Points area.
10. ARE NORTHWEST PEARS REALLY BETTER THAN CALIFORNIA PEARS?
California Pear canners have long suffered the out dated impression that the best pears are grown and processed in Washington and Oregon. This is a notion that was formed many years ago by good marketers, but has gradually been dispelled. At this time, Pacific Coast Producers is considered by many to be one of the top three Pear canners in the U.S. in terms of quality and one of the very best in terms of service and reliability.
